Coronavirus Update: Major Detour

Posted on March 12, 2020

A Message from David Ashcraft

Dear LCBC Family and Friends,

As a church we're in a series of studies we've entitled, "Detours." Detour - an unexpected change in direction. Detour - a surprise to us, but not to God. Detour - a fitting word when describing our current situation around LCBC Church.

Earlier today, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf provided an update on the state's COVID-19 (coronavirus) mitigation efforts, which included guidance to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Included in his report is the "strong encouragement of the suspension of large gatherings, events, and conferences of 250 individuals or more."

Therefore, after much prayer, and in accordance with the biblical directive of honoring our governing authorities and out of concern for the health and safety of our local communities, LCBC Church will be suspending all weekend gatherings across all of our locations this weekend, March 14-16, 2020.

Please know that this decision is not made out of fear, but instead out of obedience to God's Word and out of concern for the 45,000-50,000 people who call LCBC home as well as the communities in which we live.

The good news is that LCBC Church is not a building - the church is the people - it's you and it's me. And while we may not be gathering in our usual buildings this weekend, I would invite you to stay engaged by joining us for one of our 12 Church Online gatherings beginning Saturday evening at 4:30 pm. Simply go to to find out about more streaming times.

But let me challenge you to go a step further - in addition to joining us online - please reach out and be a good neighbor to your neighbors. God is taking us on a detour and he is giving us an amazing opportunity to share his love with others. So talk to your neighbors. Observe how you might help meet a need. Then meet that need. In other words, be a good neighbor - see a need, meet a need.

We'll continue to keep you informed as things unfold in the days ahead, but in the mean time, use common sense and lean in to Jesus - he will not leave us alone.

See you this weekend for Church Online!

PS - remember - Church is a people, not a building
