Read: 1 Samuel 23:1-5

Chances are, you have some experience facing hard decisions. They might be decisions about a job, a relationship, or your finances - the kind of decisions that can leave us feeling paralyzed. There are three things we can do when faced with these situations; the first thing is to pray.

In this passage, David has received news that the Philistines, Israel鈥檚 long-time enemy, have attacked the small village of Keilah, about fifteen miles from Jerusalem. David knew he needed to do something, but before he took action, he prayed.

What is prayer? Simply talking to God. Some of us find this difficult. We don鈥檛 know what to say. We feel awkward. The truth is, we can say anything to God, and He welcomes it. The big things, the little things. God wants a relationship with us. And just like building a relationship with a new friend requires communication, so does a relationship with God. There is nothing mystical about it; just talk.

That鈥檚 what David did, and God gave him direction. We won鈥檛 always hear God the way we hear another person, but he will answer. Is there anything bothering you or weighing on your mind? Spend a few minutes talking to God about it.

Prayer: God, I don鈥檛 always know what to say. But I know you are listening, and I need direction. Please show me what to do in this situation. Amen.
