Ringing in the new year brings a feeling of closure, and with it a fresh start and an opportunity to make new commitments. This year, take advantage of the chance to make resolutions that impact and benefit your whole family while encouraging quality time together! Check out these 6 ideas for 2020 family resolutions.

1. Family Dinners

Make the decision to have dinner together at least once a week. Stand firm—a lot of things will threaten to bump this from your calendar, but hold it as a priority for your family to eat together, whether that’s around the dinner table, out at a restaurant, or even picnic-style while you’re waiting for practice to start. Try this whether you have younger kids or older ones, and remind them of the value of the time spent together.

2. Family Devotions/Prayer Time

In the morning when you wake up, around the dinner table, or at night before you go to sleep, spend some time doing devotions or praying together as a family. Remind your family of the value of growing in your faith, asking questions, and talking to God together. No matter how you choose to be intentional about this resolution, you’ll see the benefits long-term!

3. Create A Year-Long Bucket List

This is a fun one! Sit down as a family and talk about all the things you’d love to do together this year. From zoo trips to ski trips, movies you want to see, people you want to visit—there are endless possibilities to add to you Family Year-Long Bucket List. Write down each suggestion that seems doable, and then start crossing them off! Plan to tackle no more than one each month. It’s a fun way to spend time together doing something that each person will enjoy.

4. Get Active Together

Make staying healthy fun by doing it as a family! Whether that looks like getting a family gym membership, committing to evening walks together, or even formulating a full work out plan, keep each other accountable and set small goals to stay active this year. You can track your progress with apps and charts or keep things moving at a leisurely pace. As long as you’re doing it as a family, it’s a win!

5. Find Somewhere to Serve

One of the best ways to bond as a family is in helping other people. Show the value of serving to your family this year by volunteering at a nursing home, a local animal shelter, or at your church together. Make the commitment to do it consistently throughout the year—not just around the holidays. You’ll come out of it with stories, laughs, and the feeling that you’re making a real difference.

6. Tech-Free Evenings Together

Even the biggest tech lover in your family will admit that technology can be exhausting and draining. Choose a few evenings a month to spend tech-free together as a family. Play board games, look at old family photos, or just eat dinner and share stories. When the evening is over, you can get your gadgets back—but maybe you’ll have a little less reliance on them the next time you want to enjoy some time together.

Choose one of these family resolutions for the new year, or come up with one that’s unique to your tribe. Let us know what you’re committing to for your family resolution by tagging us on social media @LCBCchurch. Here’s wishing you a family-filled 2020!
