At LCBC, we believe in making a difference – not just here, but around the world. Following Jesus means looking beyond ourselves and serving others, both in our own communities and around the world. That’s why global impact is such an important part of who we are.
Ten years ago, LCBC Harleysville partnered with Christian Relief Fund (CRF) to sponsor a school in Campamento, Honduras. What started as a simple goal to help one community has turned into something bigger than we ever imagined!
A thriving school in Campamento
Because of the generosity and support from LCBC Harleysville, Campamento now has a thriving school. But that was just the beginning. As the school grew, CRF saw another urgent need in a nearby community called Coyol.
Meeting needs in Coyol
When CRF leaders visited Coyol, they met kids walking an hour and a half through deep mud without shoes just to get to class. Their teacher’s biggest request wasn’t for textbooks or desks – it was for rain boots. CRF was able to meet that need immediately. And before long, the children of Coyol weren’t just getting boots – they were getting nutritious meals, uniforms, school supplies, and the opportunity for a better future.
And that future is happening. Students from Coyol have now become the first in their entire community to graduate high school! The impact was so big that the entire town traveled to Campamento – where the nearest high school is – to celebrate with them.
Five communities, countless lives changed
But the story doesn’t stop there. Over the last decade, LCBC Harleysville's generosity has impacted five communities: Campamento, Coyol, Barro, Chachawata, and Cacoa. Clean water, medical care, and new school facilities have changed life for hundreds of kids. Moms in these communities are cooking meals for students in brand-new school kitchens. And now, because of sponsorship, a technical school has opened, where students can learn skills like cooking, hairdressing, and computer literacy, giving them a way to build a better future for themselves and their families.
