How do you define yourself? Maybe it’s your job title, relationship status, your role as mom or dad, or words like creative, athletic, patient, or caring.

While some of these things might be true about you, they aren’t your identity. You weren’t always a mom or dad, you might have a new job in a few years, or your patience might wear thin when someone cuts you off in traffic.

When God is a part of your life, there are some things about you that will never change; they are within your identity in Christ. When God looks at you, he sees you for who you truly are. Here are some verses about identity in Christ for you to reflect on:

1. Forgiven

1 John 1:9 - “But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”

2. Saved

Hebrews 7:25 - “Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.”

3. Accepted

Romans 15:7 - “Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory.”

4. Valuable

1 Corinthians 6:20 - “for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.”

5. Strong

Isaiah 40:31 - “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

6. Handpicked

Jeremiah 1:5 - “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”

7. Treasured

Deuteronomy 14:2 - “You have been set apart as holy to the Lord your God, and he has chosen you from all the nations of the earth to be his own special treasure.”

8. God's Masterpiece

Ephesians 2:10 - “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

9. Citizens of Heaven

Philippians 3:20-21 - “20 But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.”

10. Loved Beyond Measure

Ephesians 3:16-19 - “I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”
