Saul is made king in both a private and public ceremony. His humility continues to be seen. Most of the people are thrilled with their new king, but there is understandable doubt by some who don’t see him as much of a leader. He successfully leads the people in repelling an attack. To Saul’s credit, he does not respond to his opponents in a vengeful way. Saul suddenly finds he is a pretty popular person and yet doesn’t let it go to his head. He gives God the credit for his victory.
Success is the real test of humility. When everything is going well and people are telling you how great you are, it’s hard not to take the credit.
