Chapters 9 and 10 show David continuing to consolidate power. Unfortunately, David, like Saul, fails in the midst of success. God has given him success in many areas, he has promised that David’s son will reign and he has promised David’s name will be great; but David wants what cannot be his. David’s lust leads to adultery, and his adultery leads to murder.
It has a familiar ring to it. God gives someone everything he or she could want and they fail because they want more. We too have been greatly blessed, but find ourselves wanting things God hasn’t chosen to give.
