Bible Reading / LCBC: Why We Exist

Day 1: Our Mission

MAT.28

Read: Matthew 28

When we’re new to something, the best place to start is at the core - and for LCBC, everything we do stems from our mission: We exist to introduce people to Jesus and together fully follow him.

While our mission statement is unique to our church, the concept of it isn’t. Matthew 28 records what followers of Jesus know to be the greatest event in human history - the resurrection of Jesus. And at the end of the chapter, Jesus explains what the Church should do from that point forward until he returns.

From this chapter, we get two ideas: 1) make disciples, and 2) teach them to obey. A disciple is just another word for a follower - so when Jesus said to make disciples, he was telling his current followers to encourage other people to become followers, too. That’s why we’re committed to introducing people to Jesus. Teaching others to obey means to tell others what Jesus said, and help them to live a life that follows those truths. In reality, no one does everything that Jesus taught us to do - so we’re all on a journey together trying to live the best life by following him.

As a church, our goal is to follow this mission - and over the next few days, we’ll see how we aim to do that.
