For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. - Isaiah 9:6
The term father can conjure both pleasant and painful emotions for many people. Unlike any of our earthly fathers, Jesus is absolute perfection. Jesus encompasses the beautiful attributes of parental love. He is kind, selfless, forgiving, compassionate, and understanding. Jesus is all-loving and welcomes every person into his family. This family is different than our earthly relationships. Jesus' family is eternal.
There is no end to his love, acceptance, and peace. Wherever we go in life and whatever we do, his love chases us there. Jesus never abandons us. One of the greatest's myths of God is that he grows rageful at us and our mistakes remove us from his good graces and love. This is not the Everlasting Father revealed to us in Jesus. Nothing we can do can separate us from his love.
For some, this is fantastic news that we relish. For others, this message is a beacon to stop running and come home. Jesus is waiting to show us love and grace that only an eternal and Everlasting Father could show.
