We were never promised a life that’s free of hardship. Psalm 23 makes this pretty clear using the word “when,” not “if” in referencing to walking through valleys. We will walk through valleys in life, whether we got ourselves there or something outside of our control. Either way, being with Jesus in the valley brings us comfort and confidence – not because of anything we do, but because of who he is.
Just like the disciples did in Mark 4:35-41, it’s easy to get caught up in our own personal storms and forget that Jesus is in control. But walking through the valley becomes much less terrifying when we shift our focus away from our circumstances and toward Jesus, the one who has the power to protect. We can take heart in the presence of the one who has overcome the greatest storm. What valleys are you or the people you love walking in right now? Talk to Jesus and ask him for peace in the valley.
