You Can't Look Down From Equal Standing
Matthew 7 begins with some of the most quoted words in all of Scripture: Do not judge others.
Easier said than done.
There's a part in all of us that likes to make ourselves feel better by putting others down. We think "I'm so glad I'm not like them." That's why gossip, criticism, and bitterness towards others all come so naturally. We get this feeling of superiority when we point out the shortcomings in others while ignoring our own. And it feels good.
But when we remember that we are broken, desperate sinners who needs grace just as much as anyone else, we can no longer look down on others for their mistakes...because we all have equal standing at the foot of the cross.
