When trying to identify what your gift is, you first have to realize that gifts are just that – a gift given by God. The Bible doesn’t teach that you get a superpower when you started following Jesus. Recognizing your spiritual gift is simply affirming what your unique contribution is to God’s mission.
The Bible does give us some examples of ways that the early followers of Jesus used their gifts to serve others. The lists we will read today were roles that people served in within the church. But it is important to remember that these lists are not all of the possible gifts God has given to His people. There are as many varying gifts as there are people in the world. This is because each and every one of us has been shaped in a unique way that contributes to God’s good creation.
As you start the journey to recognizing your unique contribution, you will need to ask for wisdom as you consider:
What are your passions?
What are your abilities?
What are your characteristics?
What are your past experiences?
God will use all of these influences to work together for good both for his glory and your joy. God wants you to have a sense that all of your life is a gift and you can use your life for his glory.
