Day 5 | Yahweh Shammah: The LORD is There

Read:

"The LORD is There" or in Hebrew, “Yahweh Shammah,” is a title used only once in Scripture, the last verse of Ezekiel. But the concept is throughout. God is a personal God who sent Jesus to die for our sins so that we can be with him forever. God is there. God is here.

Ezekiel was a prophet who spoke to God's people who were going through a very difficult time due to their disobedience to God. Ezekiel’s message to God’s people was to repent and turn back to God, and to have hope. They had been ripped from their homes and could not worship God as they had been taught, but there would come a day when they would return to the land. In the meantime, they could worship where they were because they knew God could not be confined by geography, language, or time.

God created the universe. But he is not IN the universe. He created time and space, but he is not IN time and space. At least, he wasn’t, not until Jesus was born of a virgin and walked the earth as a man. The angel told Joseph to name the child “Immanuel, God with us.” One day Jesus will return, and he will restore this earth to what it was in the beginning.

And God will be there.

Prayer: Dear God, you are there. You are here! You are with me even now. Help me to know deep in my bones that you are with me, and that I will never be alone, because Jesus has made the way for me to be with you forever. One day I will see you face to face. Help me here now to face whatever this day brings. Amen.
