Loving When It's Hardest
The natural way of living says that we will be kind when people are kind to us. We will be loving and respectful towards people who are loving and respectful towards us.
The upside-down way of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount has a much different standard. Just as God loves us despite our flaws, he loves others despite their flaws, and calls us to do the same.
Matthew 5:43-45a...
“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven."
Praying for those who are easier to be angry with is a great step towards forgiveness and love. Is there anyone you need to pray for today?
