Mocked and Persecuted
Most of us probably hate the idea of being mocked, ridiculed, or looked down on for any reason, especially for doing what God wants us to do.
Jesus, as he often did in this sermon about his upside-down Kingdom, completely gives us a new way to think when someone thinks less of us because of our faith:
“God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way. (Matthew 5:11-12)
This week, if you find yourself losing favor with someone, or perhaps even suffering because you are a Christian, take heart that there is a reward for us on the other side of eternity if we remain faithful in the midst of it!
