Life doesn’t always go the way we expect. Hard seasons come – whether it’s loss, uncertainty, or challenges that feel impossible to face. In those moments, it’s easy to wonder if God sees what we’re going through or if he’s really in control.

But the Bible is full of reminders that we’re not alone. From the stories of people who walked through suffering and found God faithful to Jesus’ own words, Scripture gives us hope that God is present, working, and leading us through even the hardest times.

Here are some Bible verses to encourage you when you're walking through a difficult season:

Scriptures on trusting God in difficult times

1. Exodus 3:7-8 | Then the LORD told him, “I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land."

2. Psalm 9:9-10 | The LORD is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O LORD, do not abandon those who search for you.

3. Matthew 5:4 | “God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

4. 2 Corinthians 1:8-9 | “We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead.”

5. Genesis 50:20 | “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.”

6. Psalm 34:17-18 | The LORD hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

7. Exodus 14:13-14 | But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”

8. Psalm 56:3-4 | “But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?”

9. Isaiah 41:10 | Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

10. Nahum 1:7 | The LORD is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him.

11. John 14:27 | I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

12. Romans 8:28 | And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

13. 2 Corinthians 12:9 | Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

14. Philippians 4:6-7 | Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

15. Hebrews 13:5-6 | For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” So we can say with confidence, “The LORD is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”

There’s hope in God’s promises

Difficult seasons can shake us, but they don’t have to break us. The Bible reminds us again and again that God sees our struggles. He walks with us through them. He promises to bring good from even the hardest circumstances. Remember God is faithful. Even when you can’t see it yet, he’s working.
